Zamkanda Initiatives donates organic manure to Chawama Primary School on World Environment Day
Lusaka, Zambia – June 5, 2024 – In celebration of World Environment Day, Zamkanda Initiatives has donated organic manure – compost – to Chawama Primary School. This is part of an effort to support sustainable agriculture practices and enhance environmental education within the school community.
The donation, which was made at the Chawama Primary School premises in Lusaka, highlighted the importance of sustainable farming methods and the role of organic manure in promoting soil health and reducing environmental impact. The organic manure is produced by Zamkanda Initiatives and financed by Green Step, an organisation that implements renewable energies and environmentally friendly technologies in Africa. The manure is designed to enrich soil quality, boost crop yields, and support eco-friendly farming practices.
Speaking after the event, Zamkanda Initiatives Operations Coordinator Eness Mukubekube expressed the organization’s commitment to fostering sustainable development through education and practical initiatives.
“World Environment Day is a perfect occasion to reinforce our dedication to the environment. By donating organic manure, we hope to empower Chawama Primary School with the tools to practice sustainable agriculture and inspire young minds to be stewards of the environment,” Mukubekube said.
Meanwhile, the Agriculture Science teacher and Production Unit (PU) coordinator of Chawama Primary School, Judith Kabali expressed gratitude for the generous donation.
“This contribution will significantly benefit our school garden,” she stated.
World Environment Day, observed annually on June 5th, encourages worldwide awareness and action for environmental protection. This year’s theme, “Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience,” signify the importance of reviving natural ecosystems through sustainable practices, a goal that aligns closely with Zamkanda Initiatives.
